Today is 2018 Chinese New Year’s day, the first day of the Chinese Lunisolar Calendar in the year 4715. The zodiac year of the Yang Earth Dog, often referred to as the Mountain Dog.

The home should be spotless for the new year, you should have had a haircut and now you are ready to forget about work and chores for two weeks (until the full moon) and feast with family and friends. The idea is your start the year, how you want the year to go – give the year it’s tone! Bring on the dumplings!

How it Chinese New Years Day Calculated?

The Chinese New Year celebrates the combination of the lunar and solar beginnings. The solar start to the year for the Chinese is February 4. The lunar months start with a new moon, therefore Chinese New Year combines the solar and lunar cycles and starts with the closest new moon to February 4. This is, most often, the second new moon after winter solstice.

However, when calculating your zodiac sign, you use the date February 4th as the beginning of the year. For example, if a baby is born on February 12th this year, then you may think the baby’s zodiac is Rooster, as Chinese New Year is February 16th. This is incorrect, as this baby is born after February 4th and therefore is officially a Dog. A loyal Dog!

Predictions for the Yang Earth Dog Year

February 16, 2018 begins the 4715th Chinese year. The zodiac sign of 2018 is the Dog. According to the Chinese Horoscope calendar, 2018 is the Yang Earth Dog year. Brown is connected to the earth. Earth has Yin (Female) and Yang (Male). Yin Earth brings the image of moist soil and is connected to farmland. Yang Earth brings the image of dry soil and is connected to a mountain. Therefore, 2018 is a Brown Mountain Dog year.

The image of 2018 Male Earth Dog year is two mountains, either sitting side by side or mountain beyond a mountain. The mountains attract our attention and that usually means something big is going to happen and grab our attention.

The Brown Mountain Dog year represents a very strong Earth feeling. People will be inclined to focus on real estate, agriculture, environment, territorial integrity or religious/spiritual beliefs.

2018 is a Mountain Dog year. Think of Mountain Dog as a wild dog. As you move forward in 2018, you are confronted by this dog. Some people know how to handle dogs, and some not so well. Regardless, it has the potential to block your way. This suggests you may encounter some obstacles before being able to execute your plans. You will need wisdom to deal with the barking dogs, then you will see the wide-open road.

Remember, the year sign is just one variable in Chinese astrology. It is always better to see what it means for your particular zodiac. For example, if you are born in 1978, that means you are a horse and you should look at what the Brown Mountain Dog year means for you and your fellow horses.
